Perforated solitary diverticulitis of the ascending colon.

چکیده
Solitary diverticulae of the cecum or ascending colon are rare clinical entities. Diverticulitis can occur with these lesions, but the diagnosis is frequently missed as the presentation is similar to that of acute appendicitis and can mimic other acute intraabdominal infections such as cholecystitis. Treatment of this condition is similar to that of left-sided diverticulitis. We report a case of solitary perforated diverticulum of the right colon in a patient who had a previous appendectomy and the diagnosis was mistaken for cholecystitis.

Solitary diverticulitis of the cecum is a rare condition in the general population (0.17%) (1). In Western countries, diverticular disease occurs mainly in the left colon, with about 2% in the ascending colon (2). Approximately 80% are found on the anterior side of the cecum (3), and men around 40 years of age are predominantly affected. There are 2 types of diverticula: true diverticula, which...

متن کاملDiverticulitis as a cause of septic thrombophlebitis: A literature review
Introduction: Perforated diverticulitis, with fistula formation between the colon and inferior mesenteric vein, is a cause of portal venous gas. In contrast to more common causes of portal venous air, such as mesenteric ischemia and gangrene, the prognosis is much better for patients with perforated diverticulitis. However, the diagnosis can be difficult to make, given the wide range of nonspec...
متن کاملRecurrent retroperitoneal abscess due to perforated colonic diverticulitis in a patient with polycystic kidney disease.
Patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) usually have extrarenal manifestations. We report the case of a 53-year-old man with ADPKD who presented with a retroperitoneal abscess of the left side after undergoing bilateral nephrectomy for a cyst that had repeatedly bled for 1 year. The abscess recurred despite drainage with a pig-tail catheter and antibiotic treatment. F...

Endoscopic band ligation (EBL) was performed for the hemostasis. The patient developed abdominal pain in the right lower quadrant 1 day after EBL. Computed tomography (CT) demonstrated dirty fat around the ascendi...
